Married Couples Aim To Break World Record

Married couples are being asked to help break a world record in Cornwall.

According to This Is Cornwall, couples are being encouraged to renew their wedding vows next month to set a new record, as well as renew their commitment to their partner.

The couples taking part are being asked to meet at the Newquay Christian Centre (NCC) on Saturday 8 February as part of a nationwide event called 'The Big Promise'. On the day, organisers hope to set a new Guinness World Record for the number of people simultaneously reaffirming their wedding vows. The attempt will fall during National Marriage Week which aims to get married couples to celebrate their relationships.

Commenting on the event, Pastor Mike Robbins from NCC, explained: "Each year over a quarter of a million couples get married and make solemn vows to love and care for each other until the end of their lives.

"The Big Promise presents a unique opportunity for couples to demonstrate to each other, and to others, how much they value their marriage."

He added that the event is open to everyone, but couples will need to bring proof of identity, such as a passport or driving licence, as well as their marriage certificate. Interested couples are also asked to register with the NCC office by Monday 3 February.
