According to the Daily Mirror, the couple – who met on Strictly Come Dancing in 2010 – are reported to have separated earlier this year.
A source is quoted as saying: "Things have been a bit rocky between them now for a good few months but they have tried to work through their problems.
"Neither wanted to throw in the towel but Artem's confided in pals that they actually called time on their romance a few months ago. They simply drifted apart."
Tointon was a former contestant on the talent show while Chigvintsev was her professional dance partner, but there is speculation that his blossoming friendship with current Strictly partner – Natalie Gumede – has caused tension between the pair.
They are not the first couple to have met on the show who started dating, only to later go their separate ways.
Former Hollyoaks actress Ali Bastian and dance professional Brian Fortuna began dating in 2009 but broke up a year later, while Joe Calzaghe and Kristina Rihanoff became an item after the boxer finished with his girlfriend one week into the show, but the relationship ended earlier this year.
In 2007, Flavia Cacace dumped her professional dance partner boyfriend of 11 years and started dating her celebrity partner Matt Di Angelo. Di Angelo and Flavia separated three years later, before Cacace began dating her 2010 dance partner Jimi Mistry.
