Lewis Hamilton is reportedly planning to propose to Nicole Scherzinger in the new year.
According to a report in the Daily Star, the couple are said to have secretly reunited last month but are trying to keep it as quiet as possible.
Earlier this year, the couple confirmed they had decided to end their five-year relationship.
A source close to the pair is quoted by the paper as saying: "This will be the third time Lewis has planned to pop the question.
"But he believes this time is different. Both of them have benefited from the split, realising it's impossible for them to be without each other.
"He wants to take Nicole to romantic Carmel and present her with the ring. There's no doubt in his mind she'll say yes."
It is understood the couple celebrated Thanksgiving together at Hamilton's parents' home last week, adding fuel to the rumours that they were back together.
Hamilton, 28, and 35-year-old Scherzinger first met at the European Music Awards in November 2007, before going public with their relationship at the Monaco Grand Prix six months later. They briefly split in January 2010 after 20 months together, but later reconciled. In July 2011, there was unconfirmed speculation the couple had become engaged, but they split again in late 2011.
Earlier this year, it was revealed they had decided to give their relationship another chance before confirming in July that they had gone their separate ways.
