Facebook Appeal Helps Woman Find Lost Wedding Rings

A woman from Lancashire has been reunited with her engagement, wedding and eternity rings after her husband launched a Facebook appeal to find them.

Kate Hunter, 34, is reported by the Daily Mail to have placed the rings inside her make-up bag. She intended to put the rings on at work, but lost them along the way. It was only when she reached the office that she discovered the items of jewellery were missing and she told her husband Chris.

Chris, who runs a communications business, is quoted by the publication as saying: "I knew immediately we needed to put an appeal on Facebook. The power of social network is incredible and so I got straight to it."

The items the mother-of-two lost included a £4,100 cluster ring which had belonged to her great-grandmother as well as two eternity rings, given to her by her husband to mark the birth of their children – seven-year-old Ben and Freddie, four.

Mrs Hunter, who doesn't sleep wearing her rings, as she suffers from Eczema, said she was very upset when she realised the jewellery had gone missing.

She explained: "My husband dropped me off by the bus stop and McDonald's at Preston Docks and I think I dropped the bag getting out of the car.

"The monetary value wasn't important – I was just so upset because of their huge sentimental value."

As a result of her husband's Facebook appeal, the message was re-posted more than 2,300 times in the space of 24 hours before a man, who wanted to remain anonymous, said he had found the items.

"It just shows that there are some really honest and lovely people out there," Mrs Hudson added. "We offered the finder a reward but he wouldn't have any of it, the man just wanted to reunite me the rings which he could see meant so much to me.

"Initially, I feared the worst and thought that I'd lost my most irreplaceable, sentimental jewellery, but the Facebook appeal just highlights the power of social media."
