It has been claimed that the 54-year-old is to pop the question during his annual holiday over the Christmas period. He is even said to have already purchased an engagement ring.
According to People magazine, a source is quoted as saying: "Simon has an engagement ring, but is being secretive about the proposal.
"Simon is flying to the Caribbean for the Christmas holiday. Lauren will join him for parts of the holiday trip. Simon could be planning a special holiday proposal.
"It seems he will definitely propose."
The insider added that the music mogul is excited at the prospect of becoming a father for the first time.
"He is beyond excited about his son. He loves feeling the baby kicking and acts very proud that he will be a father.
"Lauren's friends are planning a New York city baby shower that Simon will attend."
Earlier this year, a US newspaper revealed the millionaire was to become a parent for the first time with socialite Lauren Silverman. At the time, 36-year-old Ms Silverman was technically still married to her husband – Andrew Silverman – who is also a close friend of Cowell's.
The Silverman's, who have a seven-year-old son together, finalised their divorce in August.
