The survey, which was conducted by Flirt.com, found that of the 2,000 men and women polled, a majority believe looking for a new partner is easier in the workplace because there is no awkward 'getting to know each other' stage.
However, the research also found there is specific criteria when looking for a partner, with 73% of women admitting they would rather date a man in a senior role, with 61% saying they find a powerful male more attractive.
This contrasts with a majority of the men polled who would rather have a fling with a junior member of staff, while more than 80% said they loved it when their female colleagues arrived for work in "sexy" outfits. With this in mind, three quarters of men admitted they are distracted if a potential love interest is around.
When it comes to office romances however, a majority said they would attempt to keep it a secret, at least until they had decided if the relationship was serious or not.
Interestingly, the survey also revealed that the office Christmas party is not the place to look for romance. This is said to be because of the amount of alcohol consumed during the party, as well as 'eagle-eyed' colleagues.
A spokesman for Flirt.com is quoted as saying: "We spend such a large proportion of our lives at work so we wanted to find out what our singles actually thought about getting together with a colleague.
"What we found is that most people have thought about someone at work at some point, and many more have acted upon it."
