Both were recently spotted wearing their wedding rings again, while Douglas, 69, was also overheard taking a "very important" call on the red carpet at the premiere of his latest film 'Last Vegas' in New York last week.
A source, who was at the event, told the New York Daily News' Confidenti@l column that it had been 44-year-old Zeta Jones on the phone, calling to wish her husband luck with the premiere.
They are quoted as saying: "She called to wish him good luck and he said, 'Thanks honey.'
"The only reason she wasn't by his side is because she didn't want to take attention away from the film. It was Michael's night. She wanted to say hello and didn't realise he was on the carpet already."
Further sources claim the Hollywood actor also spoke about the reconciliation with his wife at an after-party later that night.
"He was sitting in the corner with friends and people kept asking what's going on with Catherine, Michael said, 'We are doing great, she's better than ever,' and said their kids are doing great," the insider explained.
"They know they have some problems, but are speaking every day and are scheduling future projects with each other in mind. Both of them are wearing their rings; what more is there to say?"
In August, a representative for Zeta-Jones confirmed the couple were "taking a break" from their 13-year marriage. The couple have two children together – 13-year-old Dylan, and Carys, 10.
