The 35-year-old filed for divorce from her director husband after it emerged he had cheated on her with Twilight actress Kristen Stewart last year.
Speaking to US magazine Vanity Fair, she described the revelation as "horrible", and said she had only discovered his affair 20 hours before the photos of him and Stewart kissing emerged online.
"It was horrible," she admitted. "It was really the worst, really the worst."
Ross, who is also a mum-of-two, added: "It was totally out of character. I was just visualised being this sort of Masai warrior. I was just going to stand very still and very strong, and just let it all roll past me.
"I tried to keep as far away from it as I could and to understand that this is my family and it's the most precious thing to me."
She also spoke about the decision to file for divorce in January.
"I'm not a quitter. I've done everything I could to be the perfect wife and mother and really support my husband. But I didn't have any more to give, you know?"
Ross and Sanders married in 2002 and have two children together, a son called Tennyson and a daughter called Skyla.

British model and actress Liberty Ross has spoken about the end of her marriage to Rupert Sanders.The 35-year-old filed for divorce from her director husband after it emerged he had cheated on her with Twilight actress Kristen Stewart last year.
