The news comes in a Daily Mail report, which said the gallery owner is threatening to reveal "the truth" behind the couple's high-profile split.
Earlier this year, photographs emerged which appeared to show Saatchi with his hands around his wife's neck outside Scott's Restaurant in London. At the time, the 70-year-old accepted a police caution for assault, but it is now being claimed that he is "furious" as to how his reputation has been damaged by the incident. As a result, he is said to be planning to sue his ex-wife for £500,000 in a court case, where the truth regarding their relationship will be revealed.
A source is quoted as saying: "Charles has been painted as the villain in all this – millions of people are convinced he was assaulting Nigella outside the restaurant. But there are very genuine reasons for why he was holding on to her.
"She has never given a public account of what was happening.
"He has just been damned by the photographs, her silence, and his acceptance of a police caution – which he did only to protect her from a lengthy probe by officers. But he has never been able to explain the truth about what was going on."
According to the Daily Mail, a letter from Saatchi's lawyers to Lawson's legal team has outlined a number of allegations against the celebrity chef. These cannot be made public for legal reasons.
The letter also warns that, should Lawson refuse to settle matter voluntarily, Saatchi is set to sue for around half a million pounds.
When the images were first released, Saatchi claimed the incident was a "playful tiff", and insisted his "actions were not violent". His now ex-wife has never commented on the images, and Saatchi has previously spoken of his disappointment at her silence.
