According to The Sun, Cowell, 54, is wanting to make his mum, 87-year-old Julie, happy as she has always wanted him to settle down. It is now understood he has agreed to marry socialite Lauren Silverman after she gives birth to the couple's first child.
A source is quoted by the newspaper as saying: "Simon's mum has always dreamt of the day Simon settles down with one woman and he's determined for her to be a big part of the day."
It is thought the ceremony will be a small, intimate affair with a church wedding being held in Sussex, near Julie's home, as well as a blessing in America that Silverman's friends can attend.
Earlier this month, Simon fuelled speculation that he was planning to marry his pregnant partner after posting a series of cryptic messages on his Twitter account which alluded to some "exciting news".
He said: "Excited to reveal some news in the next few weeks. Am feeling very positive right now. It's been hard work but nothing should be too easy.
"In life you can obsess on other people's failures or focus on your own mistakes and work hard to make sure you don't repeat them.
"But hard work and focus gives you a chance to turn a corner. And that's how I am feeling right now."
In July, it was revealed that Cowell is to become a father for the first time with US socialite Lauren Silverman. Silverman finalised her divorce with her husband Andrew – who was a close friend of Cowell's – in August and the couple now share custody of their seven-year-old son.
