According to the research, which was carried out by Paper Themes, found that one in three couples are now turning their back on an expensive weekend wedding in order to hold their wedding during the week when rates are cheaper.
A total of 500 brides were questioned for the study and it was discovered that brides choosing to walk up the aisle on a Saturday or Sunday had fallen to 67% of all weddings, while a further 15% choose to tie the knot on a Friday.
Other potential factors in why couples are choosing midweek ceremonies include convenience, more flexible working hours, and because it is what their friends have also done.
Honeymoons were also a reason, with 17% of couples admitting they took advantage of midweek flight deals by going on their romantic break immediately after their wedding.
Excluding the honeymoon, the average budget for a wedding is said to be a maximum of £10,000, with one in three couples exceeding that amount.
A spokesman for Paper Themes is quoted as saying: "Wedding venues tend to be cheaper to hire throughout the week with many actually offering incentives to those open to a midweek wedding.
"It suggests that the midweek wedding is here to stay, with popularity continuing."
