Kensit made the revelation in an interview with the Daily Mirror.
In the wake of the split, Gallagher drunkenly revealed the couple had gone their separate ways at an Oasis concert in London, but Kensit said she was too concerned about what other people were thinking about their relationship after rumours of cheating emerged.
She told the newspaper: "I'd heard all the rumours about his womanising and I knew exactly what was going on behind my back.
"The minute he left I was in turmoil about where he was and what he was up to."
She added that her insecurities about the relationship saw her lose out on the opportunity to plat the character of Emily – the girlfriend of Ross Geller – in hit sitcom Friends.
She explained: "'Friends' was an offer you didn't pass up, but I couldn't commit to it. I knew I needed to be at home if my relationship with Liam was going to survive.
"It was already a struggle keeping things together with his touring schedule. I was madly in love and I chose my marriage over the job."
"I cared way too much about what other people thought. I regretted walking out almost immediately. I think he had moved on while I still had feelings for him, and my heart was broken into a million pieces.
"Everything I did in the last 18 months of marriage was about trying to get Liam's attention."
The actress married to the former Oasis singer in 1997, but she ended the relationship three years later. They have one son together, Lennon, who is now 14.
