The study, which was carried out on The Knot's Facebook page, found that an increasing number of couples are dividing the cost of a ring, with many saying the times call for a more 'equal' divide and makes sense financially. For others however, they feel that "chivalry is dead" as a result of the move.
The survey revealed that 46% of women would be willing to share the costs of an engagement ring, while 54% said no.
The poll also drew a number of comments from women, with some saying they were "absolutely" in support of the move, with others stating: "NO! It should be something he chooses from his heart for you... even if its a small ring, it should be the thought that counts."
However, it appeared men are also divided over the idea. One man who was interviewed by Today.com, said: "I'm not a fan of that", while another smiled and admitted: "It's a great idea."
Samantha Daniels, founder of Samantha's Table Matchmaking, also spoke to Today.com and said that the latest trend is "not surprising" that both parties are involved in the important decision.
She added: "I think it makes for a better connection between the two people because both the man and woman earn money and contribute to the financials."
