In a statement released yesterday (29 August), it confirmed the couple were to go their separate ways.
It said: "Tamzin Outhwaite and Tom Ellis are sad to confirm they have separated.
"They continue to support each other as parents and will remain friends. They ask for sensitivity at this difficult time."
Writing in the Mail Online earlier this year, 34-year-old Ellis revealed how his life changed after meeting his wife.
He wrote: "My life changed in 2005 on the day I met my wife, Tamzin Outhwaite.
"She was in a play called Breathing Corpses with James McAvoy, one of my best mates from drama school.
"I knew who she was and I'd fancied her quite a bit when she played Melanie Owen in EastEnders."
He then explained the pair met again a few days later at a bar and "chatted together for the rest of the night."
"I gave her a lift home and told her I'd love to see her the next day...After just a couple of weeks, I already knew she was the person I wanted to spend the rest of my life with," he added. The couple first met in 2005 after being introduced by mutual friend James McAvoy. They married the following year and have two children together. Their first daughter, Florence, was born in 2008 and their second daughter, Marnie Mae, was born in 2012.
Outhwaite was also a stepmother to Ellis's daughter Nora from a previous relationship.
