The study, which was carried out by Ergoflex UK, also found that when it comes to females, they prefer men to wear boxers or underwear to bed, rather than a football shirt.
Some 37% of the men polled about night time wardrobe choices said a full set of pyjamas was the sexiest thing their girlfriend or wife could wear in bed, while 55% said their reasoning was because saying they looked "cute" on women in the bedroom. A further 21% admitted they found the modesty of pyjamas attractive.
Coming in second in the study, was lingerie with 32% of men saying they preferred something skimpy on a lady. Of those respondents, 27% said a negligee or a nightie was the best choice, while 22% preferred seeing a women sleeping in borrowed men's clothing, such as pyjamas or a T-shirt.
Only 16% of men said they liked their woman sleeping in nothing at all.
When it comes to women's preferences, 35% said boxers or underwear was the sexiest thing a man would wear to bed.
For the poll, a total of 1,912 men and women, aged 18 and over, answered various questions relating to bed wear.
When asked whether or not their partner's preference would influence their decision as to what to wear in bed, 71%of men said no, with 35% of women saying the same. In addition, 70% of men and 78% of women claimed they prioritised comfort over attractiveness when opting for bed wear - despite the fact that 49% admitting that a partner had claimed to find their bed wear choices unattractive in the past.
