The 41-year-old was previously married to actor Scott Foley, but she has now said she realised their relationship was not meant to last.
In an interview with Allure magazine, mum-of-three Garner, revealed she rushed into the marriage, saying: "Oh, he's a great guy. We were full-on grown-ups, but looking back I'm aware we did not know what hit us. We didn't have a shot. He's a really good guy, and we just imploded."
Garner met 41-year-old Foley on the set of television show 'Felicity' in 1998 and they married in 2000. In 2003, they ended their relationship, finalising their divorce in 2004.
Just months later, she started dating her 'Daredevil' co-star Ben Affleck.
Affleck, 41, and Garner have been happily married for last seven years and have three children together - Violet, 7, Seraphina, 4, and 18-month-old Samuel.
The actress has previously spoken about her first marriage, saying she wished she had waited until she was 30 to tie the knot.
She previously confessed: "Everyone reaches maturity at different times. I wish I'd known to wait for marriage until I was 30 or over. I did marry in my twenties and I found divorce a crushing experience. I thought the divorce statistics would never apply to me. I was beyond heartbroken when they did. But I got up and got on with it. I also kept my belief in marriage. I did not have a fairytale vision of the future of the future but I still believed I would find someone to commit to and raise kids with."
