Of those who took part in the poll, 64% of men and women said the smell of stale smoke – and smoking too much – is their partner's most annoying habit. This was followed by 22% who were annoyed that their other half never listened to them, and a further 20% who said their partner's poor money management would be a factor in them ending the relationship.
Elsewhere, 19% of people do not have time for their partner's laziness, with 15% saying they are tired of their other half 'hogging' the remote control.
Other annoying habits include jealousy, complaining and never cooking a meal for their partner, as well as arguing over who had the most stressful day – whether that is being out at work, or at home and looking after the children.
A majority of the couples polled also think their partner is predictable, and therefore would like some spontaneity in their relationship. It doesn't have to be a grand gesture – even a simple message saying 'I love you', goes a long way.
Only 15% of men said that the way their partner looks is very important compared to 51% of females who think that personality is the key factor in their relationship.
Lyndsey Wilson, a spokesperson for SKYCIG, said: "This survey has revealed a lot about couples in the UK, and how they feel about partners, ex or current. It's also really interesting to see which annoying habits people find most difficult to live with – there seems to be a general consensus with the pet hates which we didn't expect to find.
"The survey also highlights where couples problems can sometimes stem from; often from simply being thoughtless or inconsiderate, which we find quite revealing.
"What's more, it's fascinating to see how the culture around smoking has changed over the last few years too. While the smoking ban has made smoking far less prominent in public life, in private, it's clear that people still find the habit annoying and the smell, imposing."

A new survey has revealed that 55% of women would leave their partner due to their annoying habits.These habits include smoking, not tidying up after themselves or bad money management, the study, which was conducted by SKYCIG has found.
