According to The Sun, the former Hollyoaks star split from her partner last month.
Richards, who appeared on Britain's Got Talent as one half of martial arts group 'Strike', proposed to the 28-year-old last year after three years of dating. It was only in April of this year, did Atkinson confirm the couple had become engaged.
At the time, she took to her Twitter account, writing: "Ok, to those asking, YES! I am Engaged. I have been since Aug. We celebrated privately last Yr with Fam & friends :)".
She also posted a photo of her engagement ring, and said: "Thanks for all the lovely messages.Your all too kind :) enjoy the rest of the day. I'm having a lazy one. Food, films, dog, duvet #perfect".
However, according to the paper, the pair have now cancelled their wedding, with the actress said to have moved out of their Sheffield flat and returned to Manchester.
It is understood the split was mutual and no-one was else was a factor in the decision, with the couple growing apart.
In 2007, Atkinson had a high-profile relationship with footballer Cristiano Ronaldo. She was also previously engaged to footballer Marcus Bent.
