His mother-in-law, Mary Appleton, spoke to Britain's Grazia magazine, criticising the singer for his behaviour following the revelations.
She explained: "Liam hasn't bothered to call Nicole. He phoned her the day before it came out and he hasn't been in touch since. She can't get hold of him. She's absolutely devastated. This is so out of character for the Liam I know.
"Her sisters are supportive but she is in a terrible state. It's like he's lost his mind... it's been a real shock. It feels like he's been living a double life."
According to Mary, her daughter also believes there is another woman involved – Gallagher's former personal assistant, Debbie Gwyther.
Ms Gwyther was fired from her job the day after the news broke as it was claimed she was "too close" to the singer, when photographs emerged of the couple together as they relaxed by a pool in Ibiza.
Mary is quoted by the publication as saying: "Nicole knows they are together. She has had it confirmed. We believe he's just dumped Nicole and gone... I believe he doesn't want to save the marriage."
Earlier this month, The New York Post ran a story claiming American journalist Liza Ghorbani had filed a lawsuit against the rockstar saying she had given birth to the couple's child following an affair.
Ghorbani and Gallagher are first said to have met when she joined the singer as part of the A Night Out With column in the New York Times newspaper in May 2010.
When the news first emerged, a source was quoted by the newspaper as saying: "Liza met Liam when she interviewed him for the Times and they began an affair. It continued until around three months after the birth of the child. He ended the relationship when she told him she was suing him for child support.
"Liam admitted the child is his in an e-mail, saying she is a beautiful child because she has 'rock star genes'."
40-year-old Gallagher is already a father to three. He has a 12-year-old son, Gene, with wife Nicole Appleton, Lennon, 13, with ex-wife Patsy Kensit, and Molly, 15, with Lisa Moorish, following an affair in 1997.
