John Barrowman has revealed he is "proud" after being able to tie the knot with his partner.
The 46-year-old actor married his long-time partner, Scott Gill, earlier this month in California, just one day after the California Supreme Court overturned a ban on same-sex marriage.
Speaking to The Mirror, Barrowman admitted the couple only decided to exchange vows on the morning of the ceremony.
He said: "We woke up and had a row. I can't even remember what about - probably about one of us not doing the housework.
"Then he said, 'Right, so when are you going to propose to me?' And I said, 'When am I going to propose to you? When are you going to propose to me?' That's when I said, 'Come on, let's go and do it - let's just get it done'."
He added that he "started welling up" when they exchanged vows.
"It was the same with our civil partnership. I think it was because I never thought we'd be able to do it. Scott and I felt completely different after our civil ceremony, like we'd made a big step.
"But after this I feel very proud, happy and chuffed. It feels right," he added.
Earlier this month, Barrowman posted a short video to WhoSay. In the clip, the former Doctor Who actor says: "It's five after one and we've got our coffee and we're in the car getting ready to leave, because where are we going, Scott?"
He then turns the camera to Gill, who replies: "To get married. Yay!"
Barrowman adds: "We're getting married in the state of California. Thank you Supreme Court, about time you made it legal. See you after we have the ceremony!"
Following the ceremony, the couple shared a photograph of themselves with their marriage certificate, with the message: "We are now legally married. Thanks for all your great wishes. JB and Scott."
Barrowman and Gill met in 1993 after Gill went to see the actor in a play at the Chichester Festival Theatre. They have been together for 20 years, and entered into a civil partnership in the UK on 27 December 2006.
Last year, the actor was quoted by The Sun as saying he would like to adopt an older child with his partner.
