The survey, which was carried out by PromotionalCodes.org.uk, found that the average British female now spends an average £400 each time they are a guests at a wedding.
The costs include an outfit, accessories and make-up.
Women are said to spend £210 on an appropriate outfit for the bid day, paying £100 for a dress and £50 for a pair of shoes, while accessories such as a clutch bag and jewellery are an additional £60.
Some even shell out a further £60 to get their hair and make-up done for the wedding.
There's also the cost of accommodation, which is said to be around £80 for the night, while a wedding gift for the happy couple comes in at around £50.
For those women who are close friends with the bride-to-be, the survey revealed extra costs, such as the all-important hen party.
With the growing trend of hen parties now more like a holiday, women are said to spend around £300 for a short trip away with their female friends.
When asked about the cost of being a wedding guest, almost half of respondents admitted they would spend up to £400 on a friend's wedding, while more than two-thirds said buying an outfit for the big occasion was the most expensive part.
A spokesperson for PromotionalCodes.org.uk said: "Weddings are sun and fun and exciting time for everyone, but they are definitely a very expensive occasion, especially for women.
"The best thing to do when you know you have an upcoming wedding is put a bit of money aside every week, that way you have your money at the ready when the costs come flying in."
