The couple were first said to be an item last year, but are no longer on speaking terms after their break-up.
According to PerezHilton.com, a source is quoted as saying things did "not end well" between the couple. However, the reason behind the split has not been revealed.
Last September, 37-year-old Quinto, who is known for his role in the movie Star Trek Into Darkness, confirmed his relationship with Groff in an interview with Out magazine, saying: "One of the most defining conversations that I had with myself was that absolutely no good can come from me staying quiet about [my sexuality]. Literally, no good can come from it. But if I take the step to make the acknowledgment and be honest, so much good could potentially come from it.
"I'm incredibly happy, I'm incredibly lucky," he added in regards to his relationship with his partner.
There were rumours circulating that the pair were planning to get engaged, but it is thought the couple made the decision to quietly go their separate ways earlier this year.
