The Hollywood actress adopted two-year-old Louis from New Orleans in January 2010.
A friend of the star is quoted as saying: "Sandy is the happiest I've ever seen her. Louis is just the light of her life."
The 48-year-old is also said to have arranged for her son to visit her as much as possible as she filmed her latest film, The Heat.
A source said Louis "is stuck to her like glue", while another insider added that Bullock is "very hands on" with her role as a mum.
It has also been reported that the Miss Congeniality has spent the last two years transforming her $23m Beverly Hills home to make it more child friendly. The property is rumoured to include a sandbox, basketball court, pool and baseball area.
The actress was previously married to motorcycle builder Jesse James. They married in July 2005, but in March 2010 allegations arose that James had cheated on his wife with several women. At the time, he said: "The vast majority of the allegations reported are untrue and unfounded", but did publicly apologise to Bullock.
The following month, Bullock had filed for divorce. It was finalised in June 2010, with "conflict of personalities" cited as the reason.
