According to US Magazine, the actor, who turned 51 yesterday, has changed aspects of his life following the divorce.
Holmes, 34, filed for divorce last summer after six years of marriage.
A source close to the actor is quoted by the publication as saying: "Tom has definitely made some changes to his life over the past year since the divorce.
"He's actually a lot more relaxed and more extroverted."
The insider added that Cruise is enjoying his new 'single status' and isn't yet ready to settle down in a serious relationship.
"Now that he's single he wants to get out there a bit. He's dated a few girls, but very casually," they explained.
A second source claimed the actor was trying to remain "low key" since the end of his third marriage, adding "Since the divorce, he's spent some time reflecting and actually letting go."
Cruise, who has a seven-year-old daughter named Suri with his ex-wife Holmes, was previously married to Nicole Kidman and Mimi Rogers.
