In a study, carried out by discount website MyVoucherCodes, 11% of women polled admitted to having already chosen their wedding dress, while a further 37% have actually purchased their perfect dress – despite not being engaged.
Interestingly, the survey also showed that it isn't just dresses eager brides-to-be are organising well in advance.
59% said they had already planned various elements for their 'big day', such as make-up, a venue and their bridesmaids. Only 41% claimed they had told a potential partner about their wedding plans, while 36% said their wedding planning had scared previous partners.
When it came to financing the ceremony, 34% confessed they had already started saving towards it, while 76% said they had a budget in mind.
A spokesman for MyVoucherCodes said: "Whilst I have heard of people who have had some ideas about their wedding day, I have never heard of any who have purchased a wedding dress despite no plans to get married in the near future; but it seems that the majority who have keep it a secret, so this is probably why!
"Whilst it is good forward planning, parting with a lot of money for something you don't need there and then is never advised - particularly as you might change your mind when the big day comes around.
"Planning a wedding can be expensive and if you do not have to spend the money right away, what is the rush?
"The best bet is to wait until you have decided what type of wedding day you and your prospective partner would like to have."
According to the survey, women have already planned:
