Katy Perry has admitted her ex-husband Russell Brand dumped her by a text message.
The 28-year-old singer added that the "real truth" behind the couple's split is still to be revealed, according to US Vogue.
Katy Perry has revealed that her ex-husband Russell Brand dumped her by text message.
In an interview with the magazine, Perry said: "He's a very smart man, a magical man and I was in love with him when I married him.
"Hysterical in some ways. Until he started making jokes about me and he didn't know I was in the audience, because I had come to surprise him at one of his shows.
"Let's just say I haven't heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011."
The couple, who married in October 2010, spent a lot of time during their first few months of their marriage apart due to work commitments, something Brand has alluded to in the past and something his ex-wife confirmed.
"I do admit that I was on the road a lot. Although I invited him time and time again. You saw that in the movie [Katy Perry: Part of Me]. That wasn't edited to leave footage out - there wasn't any footage of him," she explained.
"He didn't like the atmosphere of me being the boss on tour. So that was really hurtful, and it was very controlling, which was upsetting.
"I felt a lot of responsibility for it ending, but then I found out the real truth, which I can't necessarily disclose because I keep it locked in my safe for a rainy day."
Brand and Perry first met in the summer of 2009 when the singer filmed a cameo for Brand's film Get Him To The Greek. They started dating after they met again in September 2009 at the MTV Video Music Awards.
In December, they announced their engagement and married in October 2010 in a traditional Hindu ceremony, near the Ranthambhore tiger sanctuary in India, the same location where Brand proposed.
After 14 months of marriage, Brand filed for divorce in December 2011, citing irreconcilable differences. Their divorce was finalised in July 2012.
