RNLI Intervene To Save Bride's Big Day

A lifeboat crew came to the rescue of a couple on their big day – after their celebrant wasn't on board the ferry.

According to The Scotsman, Leigh Manson, 32, and her husband-to-be 37-year-old Gregor Jamieson, were heading for their wedding on Inchcolm island when the discovery was made.

Following a mix-up over times, it is understood humanist celebrant Tim Maguire was left stranded at South Queensferry pier. The captain of the ferry then contacted Queensferry RNLI who agreed to bring Mr Maguire to the island.

Ms Manson said: "When we realised Tim was not on the boat, I thought 'Oh dear, what are we going to do?' I was hidden on the boat up with the captain and it was my dad who realised. He asked where Tim was, then we got a phone call saying he was on the pier."

Mr Maguire added: "I knew there were other boats, but I would be very, very late. The skipper spoke to the RNLI and they very kindly agreed to lay on an exercise."

The RNLI scrambled together a three-man crew who gave Mr Maguire a dry suit, life jacket, helmet and wellies for the high-speed, ten-minute journey.

The couple's big day went ahead at the island's 12th century abbey only slightly late. Their son, two-year-old Aaron, was a pageboy for the ceremony.
