Alicia Keys has opened up about her relationship with husband Swizz Beatz.
The 33-year-old singer married the hip-hop star in July 2010 and the couple have one child together. However, according to Marie Claire, Keys says it took a long time for the romantic feelings to develop.
She explained: "Honestly, I didn't really like him that much. I thought he was too ostentatious. He'll drive the fastest, brightest car, wear the biggest jewellery, the loudest jacket; everything with him is really over the top.
"I read an interview with him once where he was like, 'Oh, I just did this piece of music in ten minutes', and I was like, 'Of course you did it in ten minutes, it only has three sounds!'".
The mum-of-one also revealed how she fought hard when her management attempted to get the pair to record together.
"I fought it tooth and nail," she admitted. "Why should I work with him? Finally, though, we did it and we had a ball because guess what? We made music in ten minutes."
She added that "destiny" seemed to keep throwing the two of them together, including one occasion when they accidentally took each other's credit cards following a work lunch.
She said: "Strange happenings that made me keep asking, 'What is going on? Why do things keep leading me back to you?'"
Keys and Beatz eventually started dating in 2008, but their relationship was not revealed until 2010, when she was already pregnant with their child. The couple married in July 2010, with Keys giving birth to their son, Egypt, in October.
