According to the survey, which was conducted by VoucherCodePro.co.uk, the Hollywood actor snatched the top spot from British music mogul, Simon Cowell, despite his love for high-waisted trousers and a questionable haircut.
Sting came third in the poll, and was closely followed by actor Michael Douglas. Finishing off the top five, was 58-year-old Denzel Washington.
While those choices may not come as overly surprising, there were a few notable additions with Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, Sir Alan Sugar, Paul McCartney and Jose Mourinho rounded off the top 10 mature list.
When it came to the reasons for dating older men, a majority of women admitted it would be as a result of the man's wealth.
Initially, only 30% of women under the age of 30 said they would date a man in his 50’s but when asked if they would date a wealthy man in his 50’s, this rose to more than 60%. Only 22% of women claimed they would date a wealthy older man solely for how attractive he was.
George Charles of VoucherCodesPro.co.uk said: "It seems that the power of money and fame is definitely alluring.
"The fact that the results of our poll swung from a third to two thirds of respondents willing to date somebody over the age of 50 when celebrity and wealth were thrown into the mix highlights the attraction.
"Mind you, the majority of people on our list are attractive men anyway, so maybe it's just a case of putting features to the image of a faceless fifty year old. George Clooney is probably a far cry from a friend of your dad. Unless, of course, your dad mixes in those circles!"
