The singer and her estranged husband Luke Bullen were granted a divorce in just 80 seconds last week after Tunstall admitted to "unreasonable behaviour".
Speaking to the Daily Mail, the 37-year-old explained: "I felt like the biggest rock 'n' roll cliché. I had everything I wanted - money in the bank, a career, a marriage, a house - and I wasn't happy.
"And now I don't have a lot of those things. All my big possessions are gone. I don't have a house, or a car, I'm not sure where I'm going to live.
"I'm not scared any more. I'm not anxious about always doing the right thing.
"All the boxes ticked but I wasn't happy. Clearly, in my subconscious I understood what was going on.
"I don't have what I had - but I know I feel happier."
The couple began dating in 2003, before Bullen joined her backing group as a drummer. They married in 2008 at the Flodigarry Country House Hotel on the Isle of Skye.
Bullen said he had not lived with Tunstall for over six months following their separation, with the judge saying that the latter had "behaved in such a way that the petitioner [Bullen] cannot reasonably be expected to live with the respondent [Tunstall]".
