More than 7,000 mothers took part in the survey for Today Moms, with many feeling that their husbands are just another child for them to take care of.
Reasons for the opinions, included different parenting views, a lack of help with household duties and the typical pressures of marriage.
In addition, the average mother reported her stress level as 8.5 out of ten.
Of those surveyed, three-quarters admitted the do most of the day-to-day parenting household chores, with a further one in five saying the lack of help around the home from their partner is a major source of their stress.
Hal Runkel, an Atlanta, Georgia-based therapist, argued that marriage is the problem, not parenting.
He explained: "Moms think, my primary job is to be a mom, so she looks to her husband to be a support.
"It's easy to blame your stress on another person. Marriage is emotional weight-lifting. It's exercise. And when you choose to exercise, sometimes it feels miserable. I don't believe what wives really want most are husbands who are acquiescent and stress-free."
The report follows a survey carried out my Today Moms in 2012, which found that two-thirds of fathers felt they were doing more than ever with their kids, but were not getting any credit for it, admitting that what they wanted most from their partner was a verbal acknowledgement of a "good job" now and again.
