According to Star magazine, the couple are said to have had a "nasty" fight last month.
It is thought the argument was over Aniston's former boyfriend, Gerard Butler.
A source said the Hollywood actress "immediately lit up" when Butler approached the couple at the Soho House in LA. They added that the conversation between the former couple left Theroux angry.
The insider claimed: "Justin was furious. He called Jen selfish and said he'd felt like a third wheel while she flirted with Gerard all night. Jen broke down in tears. When they left, she had mascara running down her face."
The magazine also claimed Aniston's estranged mother "rushed to comfort her".
Aniston and Theroux became engaged in August last year and there was speculation that the couple were planning a summer wedding. However, the 44-year-old actress is believed to be choosing her wedding date carefully to avoid a potential clash with the wedding of her former husband Brad Pitt.
Pitt and Jolie are also expected to be tying the knot this summer after eight years together.
