In an interview with Attitude magazine, the 27-year-old admitted to picking The Saturdays' singer, Una Healy, off the television during a pub lunch.
The sports star explained: "I'd been having lunch in a pub with my agent when he asked about my love life and I was, 'Oh, non existent.'
"He asked if there was anyone I was thinking about, then The Saturdays popped up on the music channel in the corner and I said, 'Oh, the one in the blue tights'. And the next thing I know I've got a text saying, 'She's expecting your call'."
The pair married in June 2012 after being together for three and a half years. They are parents to one-year-old Aoife Belle.
Recently, 31-year-old Healy confirmed her husband's story in her magazine column, saying: "Ben and I got married last July and we’d been together for about three and a half years before that. The story of how we met is quite funny…
"I was introduced to him after his agents went behind his back and asked if I’d go on a date with him. They got my number and passed it on to Ben who then called me. That was it really!"
