The survey, which was carried out by dating website Match.com, also revealed that the so-called 'three-day rule' is no longer valid, as a 78% of men claimed they get in touch with their date before the 72 hours has passed.
More than 5,000 single people took part in the survey and almost three quarters said they thought it was appropriate to kiss on a first date, while only 22% thought it was okay to sleep with their partner.
