The tattoo artist made the comment in an interview with People magazine.
The 31-year-old and the Canadian electronic musician are expected to tie the knot on 10 August, in front of 200 of their closest friends and family.
The inspiration behind the ceremony came from the couple's mutual love for H.P. Lovecraft's short story, The Call Of Cthulhu, which is about a man who is part human and part octopus.
Speaking to People, Kat said: "[It will be] the furthest thing from traditional."
The food and decorations for the big day will coloured blue and green, while performers at the wedding will be dressed as mermaids.
The bride-to-be also allowed her partner to help design her wedding dress.
She explained: "It will have a sleek silhouette and include hints of iridescent teals, blues and deep violet ombré gradients. I didn't know the dress was supposed to be a surprise."
Kat and Deadmau5 confirmed they were a couple in September 2012. They split briefly in December and then announced their engagement the same month.
