According to The Sun, Robert Barnett (33), of 40 Commando, was fined £300 after he was found to have breached military rules by wearing a uniform he was not entitled to. It was also discovered that the medals he was subsequently wearing on the uniform, were not his.
Barnett, who had been an acting sergeant, was reported to have wanted to "big it up and impress his family", a court martial in Portsmouth was told.
The offence by Barnett was only discovered after other marines saw Facebook photos of him at the wedding.
Barnett was found guilty of conduct prejudicial to good order and service discipline, but he denied conduct prejudicial to good order, saying he wore the medals to a private family wedding, not while he was on duty. He did admit to borrowing the uniform and explained the medals were a gift from his father.
Barnett has since been promoted to the rank of sergeant.
