Speaking to Heat magazine, a friend claimed the 28-year-old was planning to stay away from dating for a while.
They said: "It's been a really tough time for Katy. John just emotionally bailed on her. She can't believe she's back to square one. She's had enough of men."
The source added that Perry was focusing on a number of new projects, including "concentrating on healing, working on new music, and spending time with her girlfriends."
Last week, it was rumoured Mayer called time on the couple's relationship as he felt Perry was hurting his credibility as an artist, leading to a number of arguments.
The pair began dating in February 2012, when Perry's divorce from British comedian Russell Brand was finalised. Perry and Mayer split up in August of that year, but reunited a few weeks later.
