The findings also revealed that the groom is more likely to impress the guests as opposed to the bride as the desire for men's pre-nuptial cosmetic improvements become increasingly popular.
The confetti.co.uk Wedding Report looked at the upcoming weddings of 2,000 brides for the survey to find out what couples in 2013 were planning for their big day.
Only 1.4% of women asked were opting for a traditional white wedding this year, while a significant 25% admitted that reality television was the biggest inspiration when it came to planning their big day.
Looking at dress colours, purple proved to be the most popular with one in five brides choosing the colour.
When it came to a venue, the traditional setting of a church was dismissed by a number of women, with 60% of brides opting for a civil ceremony elsewhere. However, the increasing cost of holding a wedding in a church was a possible reason for the decline, with almost one in ten brides-to-be saying the traditional choice of venue was too expensive.
Pre-wedding makeovers were also looked at as part of the Wedding Report, and it revealed more men than women were now undergoing beauty and cosmetic procedures in the build up to their big day.
A massive 90% of grooms admitted they chose teeth whitening treatments or veneers to improve their pearly whites. In addition, 25% said they considered botox as a must before their wedding, with 50% claiming they went on a diet.
Kate Thompson, wedding expert and agony aunt at confetti.co.uk, said: "While some trends will never change, it seems the traditional white church wedding has made way for a new type of nuptials for 2013's brides.
"It's also interesting to see that the groom is taking the preparations for his big day just as seriously as the bride! With all eyes on every aspect of the big day, including the groom, metrosexual males can now make the most of the growing beauty treatments available to them with a wedding makeover."
The report looked at all areas of planning and organisation for a wedding including the time of year, honeymoons, ceremony, wedding favours, stationery and gifts.
Other findings revealed:
•60% of brides will get married on a Saturday, with the most popular day being 3rd August
•One year and four months is the average time taken to plan a wedding with the cost between £5k and £10k
•75 is the average number of guests for a wedding in 2013
•One in four couples now request cash instead of a traditional gift for the home
•One in five newlyweds would be visiting Europe for their honeymoon
