The survey also revealed that more than a third of women deliberately got up before their new boyfriend woke up, to secretly apply make-up.
A further 60% of women admitted that they don't remove their make-up when they sleep with a new partner.
The figures appear to prove how reluctant women are to let a man see them without their make-up until they get to know each other better.
When it came to finally allowing the man to see them fresh faced, 17% of women waited as long as two months, 16% waited three to six months while 8% waited for an entire year. Interestingly, 3% claimed they never let their partner see them without make-up.
When respondents were asked why they didn't want their partner to see them without the mascara, lip gloss and foundation, 58% said they just looked better with make-up.
28% said they wouldn't feel as confident, 12% said they wouldn't be desired as much while 2% said they feared their spouse would end their relationship.
Other findings revealed 27% of women were happy to go to work without make-up and almost a third insisted on wearing the products to the gym.
Those surveyed were also found to be happier going 'make-up free' around their female friends than male.
Debra Robson, CEO of Debra Robson LDN, said she wasn't surprised with the results of the survey.
She said: "Make-up makes you feel sexier and more confident. I love the idea us girls waking up early to secretly put on make-up to keep up appearances from the previous night.
"We all want to look our best in the early throws of romance and women feel they look a lot better and more desirable with make-up."
