According to the Daily Mail, Cotton called Sones shortly after the birth of her son.
Cotton and Sones have been best friends since they were 11 years old.
Speaking about his new found role, the 30-year-old said: "I got a text from Fearne with a picture of Rex. It said, "I love you so much already, I want you to be my godfather".
"I don't know what exactly a godfather does but I'm definitely up for doing it. Rex is the cutest baby ever."
Rex is the first child for Cotton and her fiancé Jesse Woods, who began dating in 2011.
The couple are yet to release a picture of the little boy, but last week Rex's grandmother Jo Wood said he had his mother's nostrils.
Speaking on This Morning, she said: "He's so lovely – and he's got her little nostrils, he has! He's just beautiful and my seventh grand child - unbelievable. I've seen the baby a couple of times, in fact, I should go and see him again."

Radio 1 presenter Fearne Cotton has asked former X Factor contestant Kye Sones to be godfather to her son, Rex.According to the Daily Mail, Cotton called Sones shortly after the birth of her son.
