Rather than cancel the £5,000 celebration Angela Burrow, 52, went ahead with the wedding reception she had paid for.
The nurse and former army major ditched the wedding gown and wore a long navy blue dress and scarlet jacket, complete with Iraq war medal.
"My motto is everything happens for a reason," said the 52-year-old. "So I resurrected the reception and held it as a new beginnings party."
She wined and dined 40 guests at Tylney Hall Hotel, in Rotherwick, Hampshire and even shared a night in the bridal suite with her daughter.
Mother-of-two Ms Burrow continued: "Some people think I should be like Miss Havisham in Great Expectations. But I’ve always been a glass half full person.
"I shared the bridal suite with my 21-year-old daughter Heather. You have to laugh really, don’t you? Life’s too short."
