The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) predicted the amount would be produced through wedding spending in the next three years.
The Williams Institute at the UCLA School of Law says about 18,000 same-sex couples in the three states will be married in the three years following the introduction of the new laws.
The think-tank estimates wedding-related spending for couples within the states will be $16m in Maine, $63m in Maryland and $89m in Washington.
These estimates do not include out-of-state same-sex couples that travel to those states to marry.
Lee Badgett is research director at the institute and an economics professor at the University of Massachusetts. He says the additional spending will benefit the economy through creating new jobs and boosting tax revenues.
