The pair are beginning to resolve their differences for the sake of their baby daughter Dolly.
In her new! magazine column Houghton said: "I've managed to get myself into a different place now emotionally.
"Alex and I are talking and things are a lot better between us.
"I feel like we've both had our say.
"He came to see Dolly last night and we chatted.
"It was amicable. I still get really upset because it's a reminder... there's a gaping hole when he goes. It's so hard."
