The couple danced arm-in-arm on the marble floor of the mall in Dhahran, wearing the traditional, European black suit and long, white dress.
Their friends and some women who were passing by joined in with the party.
The groom is reported to be a teacher at a private school in Al Dhahran. He and his bride were married in Egypt, but then took a flight to Saudi Arabia, still clad in wedding attire, and went straight to the shopping mall where they had planned to celebrate their tying of the knot.
But the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, the public morality police, broke up the event and took the groom in for questioning.
Meanwhile, the bride was led by the wives of the groom’s colleagues out of the mall.
The teacher told police the celebrations were meant in good spirit and that he had not been aware they were committing an offense.
But he was told by the police that his actions amounted to "odd behaviour" and were not tolerated in a conservative society.
