'I Love Her More Than Ever' After 60 Years - Diamond Wedding Joy

A couple who celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary this week say they "just clicked" when they met at a church hall dance at the age of sixteen.

Vera and Ken Plackett married in 1952 at Southwark Town Hall, after two years of courting.

Ken said he knew straight away that Vera was the one for him. "We clicked straight away," he said. "From then, we did everything together."

In the year they married, Winston Churchill was Prime Minister, the UK first announced it had an atomic bomb, Anne Frank's diary was published in English for the first time, and, of course, Queen Elizabeth II took the throne.

Mr and Mrs Plackett told the Hampshire Gazette that they are hoping for a letter from the Queen.

But despite all the things that have changed beyond recognition during the 60 years of their marriage, from politics to technology, the Placketts seem to still be strong and confident in their marriage.

Mr Plackett said: "Vera is definitely the same person I fell in love with. In fact, I love her more than ever. She is terrific."

They have raised seven children and now have 21 grandchildren.

The couple are celebrating the occasion with family and friends tomorrow night, as more than 60 well-wishers will join to offer their congratulations to the happy couple.

Mrs Plackett said: "It will be great getting all the family together, and seeing us all together - it will be a proud moment."
