Groom Dies On Honeymoon

A newlywed has died on honeymoon after falling from a cliff.

Brian Orton, 45, had enjoyed six days of the Portugal holiday when he tripped and fell 100ft to his death.

Wife Catherine was ahead of him on the cliffside path and didn’t she him stumble.


Catherine, 40, of Coundon, Co Durham, said: “We were walking up a path next to an open-air escalator.

“When I turned around he’d disappeared. I didn’t want to see what had happened, so I rushed to the hotel and told them. It has come as a massive shock. I still expect him to walk through the door.”

Catherine ran back to their hotel for help. Staff later found the gas engineer at the foot of the cliff with fatal head injuries.
