Illegal Mass Wedding Held In Cleveland

Over 200 gay and lesbian couples have gathered at the Galleria downtown Cleveland, Ohio for the largest illegal mass wedding ever held.

The Saturday afternoon ceremony included speeches by activists on the steps of Cleveland City Hall.

Hundreds of friends and relatives joined the brides and grooms as eight priests and ministers recited marriage vows to them.


The couples of all ages wore white dresses and tuxedos, while others turned up in more casual clothes.

"There are over a thousand benefits available to married couples by the federal government that are denied to same-sex couples," participant Rick Starn said to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

A gay pride flag was flown alongside the American flag a the venue.
