Nationally, the Government has announced a special four-day jubilee weekend taking place in June 2012.
The Council will mark the occasion with a special celebratory luncheon for residents of the district who are celebrating their Diamond Wedding Anniversary in the same year, hosted by the Chairman of Council.
Anyone who knows of such a couple who will be marking their happy occasion should urge them to get in touch. One couple from Thatcham are already attending and all couples who are there on the day will have the opportunity to renew their wedding vows.
Councillor Peter Argyle, Chairman of West Berkshire Council, said: "As so many of us enjoyed celebrating the royal wedding, I hope that the diamond jubilee will be just as popular.
"I am very keen that local residents who are celebrating their own special day have the opportunity to join us in marking the royal anniversary. I urge anyone who knows of someone marking their diamond anniversary in 2012 to help them get in touch so we can invite them to a very important celebration."
Julie Young, Registrar for West Berkshire, said: "It will be a wonderful experience and a privilege to renew wedding vows at very special and unique occasion. I'm looking forward very much to meeting the couples."
Gary Ockwell, General Manager of the Regency Park Hotel, added: "We are delighted to be hosting this special event and look forward to welcoming the couples celebrating their Diamond Wedding Anniversaries."
