Russell Taylor, 94, and his wife, Odile, 93, from Ohio will travel to France 66 years after they got married on the Cannes Riviera in 1945.
Mr Taylor, who served in the Signal Corps with General Patton’s Third Army, meet Odile in Paris after she fled her hometown in France as the Germans descended.
Russell was working on IBM equipment at the Eisenhower headquarters and Odile was hired as a secretary. She helped Russell with translations. They moved to the US after their wedding.
They will be returning to France thanks to the nonprofit Jeremy Bloom's Wish of a Lifetime foundation and Brookdale Assisted Living.
Benjamin Patton, grandson of Gen. George S. Patton presented the gift to the couple.
"I was certainly surprised; that was a big surprise. They got him to come in and present it to us, and I had landed on Normandy and followed Gen. Patton," Russell told The Huffington Post. "It was such a nice thing to get his grandson to do this."
