Clay Flowers - Wedding Day Alternative

Clay flowers have now been presented as an alternative to fresh cuts flowers for the big day.

These aren’t edible, but they’re made in much the same way sugar flowers are created for wedding cakes, so it’s a transferable skill for many cake decorators.

These type of flowers are being advertised as cheery and innovative as they won’t break or mold and won’t fade for at least a couple decades.

The lure of preserved memory may be great but the bright clay flowers could prove to be costly.

It is understood that a dozen roses would take a day to make, and bouquets for an entire wedding party would take about 30 hours.

Country Girl Cakes owner and cake designer Miranda Kenney-Pellett has taken up the trade.

She said: "It’s difficult to pinpoint how the cost compares to real or even silk flowers but it’s likely comparable or perhaps a little bit more expensive, depending on what you’re looking for.

"It’s hard to say because every flower is going to be a different price," she said. "Every flower has different sizes. They might get pretty expensive because everything is handmade and hand painted."
